The Dynamical Inverse Problem for Axisymmetric Stellar Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The standard method of modelling axisymmetric stellar systems begins from the assumption that mass follows light. The gravitational potential is then derived from the luminosity distribution, and the unique two-integral distribution function f (E, L 2 z) that generates the stellar density in this potential is found. It is shown that the gravitational potential can instead be generated directly from the velocity data in a two-integral galaxy, thus allowing one to drop the assumption that mass follows light. The two-dimensional rotational velocity field can also be recovered in a model-independent way. Regularized algorithms for carrying out the inversions are presented and tested by application to pseudo-data from a family of oblate models.

Eigenvalue Assignment Of Discrete-Time Linear Systems With State And Input Time-Delays
Time-delays are important components of many dynamical systems that describe coupling or interconnection between dynamics, propagation or transport phenomena, and heredity and competition in population dynamics. The stabilization with time delay in observation or control represents difficult mathematical challenges in the control of distributed parameter systems. It is well-known that the stabi...
متن کاملAn Axisymmetric Contact Problem of a Thermoelastic Layer on a Rigid Circular Base
We study the thermoelastic deformation of an elastic layer. The upper surface of the medium is subjected to a uniform thermal field along a circular area while the layer is resting on a rigid smooth circular base. The doubly mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a pair of systems of dual integral equations. The both system of the heat conduction and the mechanical problems are calculated b...

We present preliminary results on a new family of distribution functions that are able to generate axisymmetric, truncated (i.e., finite size) stellar dynamical models characterized by toroidal shapes. The relevant distribution functions generalize those that are known to describe polytropic spheres, for which all the dynamical and structural properties of the system can be expressed in explici...
متن کاملThe Exact Solution of Min-Time Optimal Control Problem in Constrained LTI Systems: A State Transition Matrix Approach
In this paper, the min-time optimal control problem is mainly investigated in the linear time invariant (LTI) continuous-time control system with a constrained input. A high order dynamical LTI system is firstly considered for this purpose. Then the Pontryagin principle and some necessary optimality conditions have been simultaneously used to solve the optimal control problem. These optimality ...
متن کاملGlobal Axisymmetric Stability Analysis for a Composite System of Two Gravitationally Coupled Scale-free Discs
In a composite system of gravitationally coupled stellar and gaseous discs, we perform linear stability analysis for axisymmetric coplanar perturbations using the two-fluid formalism. The background stellar and gaseous discs are taken to be scale-free with all physical variables varying as powers of cylindrical radius r with compatible exponents. The unstable modes set in as neutral modes or st...
